Wine Spectator 88 points - The 2009 Pesquera Reserva is aged for 24 months in barrel. It offers luscious fruit: a medley of red and black fruit that are well defined, infused by iodine and black olive compote scents that add another dimension. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, quite sturdy tannins that encase the layers of ripe fruit at the black end of the spectrum. It has a creamy veneer that caresses the mouth and a sweet, vanilla tinged finish that is modern in style, but fresh, well balanced and classy. This Pesquera is endowed with the potential to age gracefully over 15 to 20 years. This is a gorgeous wine that can only bring smiles to faces. Drink 2014-2025+
Original bodega founded in 1972. A living icon of modern Spanish wine, Alejandro Fernández was one of the first in his country to return to biodynamic, low yield viticulture in order to produce concentrated oak-aged red wines capable of extended bottle aging. Currently under vine are 500 acres, almost exclusively Tempranillo, in a range of soil types including a locally-rare gravel deposit. Following development of new wine estates in the 1990's current vintages are of unprecedented quality. The 'Master of the Tempranillo', now at the peak of his career.
|The four bodegas that comprise Alejandro Fernandez’s wine legacy, and constitute Grupo Pesquera, share a passion for winemaking that has perfected over time. The strong bond to this great winemaker’s homeland is also reflected in the group emblem: the symbolic Archway and Tower of Pesquera de Duero, the characteristic label on his mythical Tinto Pesquera wines.
Numerous awards endorse our wines; awards reaped throughout our 40 years of experience in winemaking. It is, without doubt, a dream come true for Alejandro Fernandez whose maxim was always to own a bodega and make fine wines. Today it could be said that reality has surpassed the dream and that Alejandro, his bodegas, and his wines have earned worldwide recognition and appreciation.
