Appearance: Natural colour; burnished gold, clear and bright
Nose: Rich, mature oak; top note of aromatic smoke
Palate: Rich, full flavour; honey and peat
Finish: Soft, round and long
Ultimate Beverage Challenge 95 points - Smokey and earthy on the nose, the aromas are pure and focused. In the mouth it is soft and silky with saline flavors giving way to smokiness, light caramel, and hints of coffee. Decidedly savory, the finish goes on and on. (Apr 2014)
Wine Enthusiast 96 points - Gold hue leading to light amber. There is a layered nose of smoke, peat and rancio. The nose continues to unfold in the glass with aromas of curry and preserved citrus. The palate offers sweet, dried fruit character with butterscotch flavors, orange peel and spice. The finish is delightfully long.
Opening aromas are of sea breeze, cigar smoke, oak and malted barley; air contact releases light caramel, fudge, cocoa bean, burnt candle wick and heather. Entry is the most complex of any whisky; midpalate soars on oak, spirit and grain tastes. The greatest distilled spirit of this generation. Buy whatever you can find.
