"Telmo Rodriguez is considered one of Spain's most talented and prolific winemakers who champions the revival of native varietals and underappreciated regions with superior terroir. He studied viticulture and oenology at the University of Bordeaux and was the winemaker at Remelluri, his family winery in Rioja, before setting off on his own in 1990. His focus is in the vineyard where he farms biodynamically, has revived the cultivation of bush vines and replants exclusively with massale selections. Telmo is also a remarkably democratic winemaker who is as proud of his everyday wines as he is of his rare and limited bottlings. Like all the Telmo Rodriguez wines from Toro, Dehesa Gago is 100% Tinto de Toro (the local clone of Tempranillo). Dehesa Gago is picked by hand from bush vines, and fermented in neutral cement casks and stainless steel. It is then aged for 4-6 months in cement tanks.
