The Domaine l'Ameillaud is a family-owned vineyard, situated in Cairanne, in the Province of Vaucluse. The property dates back to the end of the 18th century but was purchased by an expat Englishman, Nick Thompson, in the 1980's, who was looking to settle into an agrarian lifestyle centered around good wine and good cheese. Their Vin de Pays de Vaucluse bottling is composed of 60% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 20% Carignan from clay, limestone and alluvial soils, on south facing terraces situated to the east of the village of Cairanne just next to the Cote du Rhone appellation. The vines average 30 years of age. This wine offers generous aromas of red fruits and spices. The mouth feel is on the high side of medium body and the fruit flavors are nicely balanced with sufficient acidity and soft tannin. If you like a hardy and honest style red that isn't overly heavy and displays versatility at the dining table, put this in your cart!
