Rene Leclerc and his son Francois are an example of the new type of father/son winemaking team in Burgundy. In recent years, Rene Leclerc has gradually passed on the winemaking and management of the domaine to his son, Francois. A traditionalist like his father, Francois also brings personal experience from work in Oregon and his own vision of what his vineyards can achieve. The domaine consists of 12 hectares in and around Gevrey-Chambertin, producing Gevrey-Chambertin Village, Clos Prieur, Lavaux St. Jacques 1er Cru, Champeau 1er Cru, Combe aux Moines 1er Cru and a small amount of Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru. There is also a superb Bourgogne Rouge. The domaine is known for its old vines - 50-80 years average age - and a lush, fruity style of wine. "A brooding and almost mute nose allows only glimpses of an earthy melange of wild red and blue berry fruit aromas that are followed by rich, full and quite serious medium-bodied flavors that possess both good volume and fine length on the balanced if not especially complex finish." - Burghound
