This attractive Umbrian red is mostly Sangiovese, but there's an addition of 10% Merlot, plus what the importer described as "a splash of Barbera" to make things more interesting. The nose speaks of red fruits with floral overtones, described by one our tasters as rose petal. On the palate it's medium-bodied, supple, with soft tannins but goodly acidity to balance out the attractive ret fruit on the rather long finish (particularly for a wine in the under $10. category). Given the $7.99 price, we suggest the Nispero as an every-day match for pizza, or pasta with red sauce, though it will also make for good sipping with a bit of cheese or sopressata.
