Pineapple, honeydew melon, and a hint of butterscotch highlight the aromas. The flavors are an enticing combination of crisp apple and melon and buttered cinnamon toast. The finish has an intriguing European minerality and a little lemon zest.
Sawbuck Chardonnay has aromas of crisp green apple and spice. Hints of vanilla toast and butter stay consistent with the flavors. It is medium-full in body with bright acidity and nice balance. This Chardonnay is crisp in the palate with lingering flavors of honey and lemon. Enjoy Sawbuck Chardonnay over the next 4-5 years with grilled chicken, baked swordfish, Cobb salad and cheeses.
|Wine maker notes
|Dijon clones 95 and 124 grown in our Matchbook and JK Vineyards were blended together to add complexity. The wine was barrel fermented and periodically lees-stirred. Ten months of barrel aging produced the rich texture. This wine was blended with a small percentage of 2011 vintage chardonnay to add fresh apple and melon characters.
When owners John and Lane Giguiere started their first winery in 1983 they were young and enthusiastic with dreams much bigger than their bank account. The first years were financed by credit cards and hope until they felt like they were down to their last sawbuck before R.H. Phillips and Toasted Head became wine brands.
About the Appellation
Sawbuck wines are made from grapes grown in the northern edge of the California wine country; Mendocino and Yolo Counties. Both are unique growing regions that are left of center of the mainstream. Often overlooked, they offer wines of incredible quality at a value price.
