The 10 "Cru" Beaujolais (Brouilly, Cote de Brouilly, Chenas, Chiroubles, Fleurie, Julienas, Morgon, Moulin-a-Vent, Regnie, and St.-Amour) are village appellations that produce the pinnacle of red wine in southern Burgundy. Grown on essentially granite sub-soils, these wines prove that Gamay can be splendid wine, at times with a life span of 20 years and more. The 2007 St.-Amour from the Domaine des Champs Grilles is deep and balance, drinking well now and through 2013, while the 2009s become ready.
