Special BAYWAY100 points - The 2012 Nero d?Avola shows Colosi?s comfort zone in terms of price and quality. The wine opens to plush and soft tones of chocolate covered cherry with plenty of fresh fruit and blackberry at the back. The wine shows a solid delivery with soft tannins and pleasant heft and weight to the finish. You can taste those distinctive Nero d?Avola characteristics of toasted almond nut or scorched earth. Drink 2014-2017
It's been said that Nero d'Avola is a cousin to Shiraz, and this could well prove the point. Ripe and dried black fruits greet the nose and give way to a raisiny/jammy quality typical of good Nero d'Avola. After aerating the wine for an hour, the aromas bloom into a bouquet of dark flowers and baking spices. Pair the Colosi with beef, osso bucco, steak, or roast duck for a perfect dinner.
|Perfect with red meats, pasta with tomato sauce and aged cheeses
|Since 1987 Cantine Colosi has been producing native Sicilian wines.Consisting of 24 acres of vineyards in Salina, a small island in the Eolian Archipelago, Colosi occupies an area of the island recognized for both its orientation and for the physical-chemical nature of the soil whose volcanic origins are particularly suitable for vine cultivation. The new winemaking cellar, surrounded by the Malvasia vineyards, was completed in 2004. The winery is located underground in order to have a constant temperature for the optimum care of the wine and to respect the strict preservation rules of the Eolian archipelago. With three generations of experience, Colosi is led by enologist Piero Colosi in collaboration with his father Pietro.
