"Master Blender Richard Paterson's excellent adventure. This whisky consists of Dalmore aged in a wide variety of casks, including cabernet sauvignon, madeira, Matusalem sherry, marsala, port, and bourbon. This diversity shows in the whisky's complexity and unique flavor profile. There's a lot going on in here. Very rich, but balanced with oak spice and gripping resin (especially on the finish). Sweet layers of toffee, molasses, and vanilla fudge provide a foundation for red plum, ripe red raspberry, black cherry, blueberry, orange marmalade, kiwi, grape skin, and toasted almond. A very busy whisky which requires a good dose of mental participation to really appreciate it and sort all the flavors out. In this regard, very much like Glenmorangie Signet." - Malt Advocate, 88 points
In 1263, Colin of Kintail, Chief of the Clan Mackenzie, took a bold decision to stand up and be counted, and felled a charging stag which attacked King Alexander III of Scotland. In return for saving his life, the grateful King gifted the 12-pointed Royal Stag emblem to the Mackenzie Clan as a reward.
When descendants of the Mackenzie Clan took over the ownership of The Dalmore distillery in 1867, they continued to honour this brave act and proudly put the 12-pointed Royal Stag on the bottle. To this day, the Stag still adorns each and every bottle of The Dalmore.
Since its inception in 1839 by Sir Alexander Matheson, a long line of whisky pioneers have taken the helm at The Dalmore distillery, all with a shared vision to create a single malt unlike any other. The unique distillation at The Dalmore produces a complex new make spirit which can be matured for longer and in a greater variety of casks than any other. Master Distiller Richard Paterson travels the globe to hand-select only the finest casks in which to mature The Dalmore. Building on the foundation of the great men who went before him, he continues to push the boundaries of what is possible in the art of whisky making.
