Palate: Layered fruits and spice combine, with cinnamon baked apple wrestling with raisin and plum pudding. The dram opens out to reveal warming barley and a hint of sweet pear
Finish: A classic Single Malt with punch that dances on the palate. The trademark Arran barley-sweetness shines through the layers of complexity
After initially maturing in traditional oak casks for approximately 8 years, the Arran Single Malt in this bottling was finished in the highest quality Port wine casks from an artisan producer of this iconic Portuguese fortified wine . Our Master Distiller, James MacTaggart, has carefully monitored this period of secondary maturation to ensure the perfect balance is struck between the Port casks and the intrinsic sweet-fruity character of The Arran Malt. The end result is a Single Malt full of charm, complexity and quality and an extremely popular part of our range.
|Isle of Arran Distillers is situated off the southwest coast of Scotland in the village of Lochranza on the Isle of Arran. Their premium, hand-crafted whiskies are made from some of the purest mountain waters in Scotland and are widely recognized as some of the finest malts in the world. Arran is the first of the new wave of Scotch distillers built exclusively to produce single malt rather than blends. Isle of Arran is the only distillery on the island and remains an independent company. Distillery manager James MacTaggart has 30+ years of experience in whiskey production and combines traditional distillation methods with modern technology – washbacks are made from Oregon pine instead of stainless steel, the stills are small copper pots with long narrow necks and the barley blend is unpeated Optic, Braemar and Oxbridge. Each Isle of Arran whiskey is aged in casks, non-chill filtered with no added color and bottled at 46% abv versus the normal 40% abv. The unique microclimate of the Isle allows the malts to mature more quickly, encouraging early development of desirable secondary aromas and flavors. Isle of Arran was recognized as the Scottish Distiller of the Year in 2007 by Whisky Magazine and in 2005 was awarded The Queen’s Award for Enterprise, the highest business honor in the UK.
